Recipe Box In Quilted Sapele
Quiltboxes wood art pieces feature traditional quilt block designs executed in beautiful hardwood marquetry. I make these heirloom quality boxes in my studio in the capital region of Upstate New York.
The Quilted Sapele on this wood marquetry recipe box shines like polished metal. I used the Sapele with Izombe (the yellow wood) and Tamo (Japanese Ash) to make the quilt pattern called Spools. This quilt pattern has a great illusion that visuallyjumps between 3D crosses and spools of thread.
The box is 7 1/8" long, 4 3/4" wide and 5 1/2" high with black felt on the bottom, and it is sized for 4x6 recipe cards or photos.
The main issues on this box are on the back, where the veneer cracked near the hinges, and where some white glue shows through the wood. Inside, there are a few cosmetic issues which won't be visible when it's full.
