Recipe Box In Imbuya Burl
Quiltboxes wood art pieces feature traditional quilt block designs executed in beautiful hardwood marquetry. I make these heirloom quality boxes in my studio in the capital region of Upstate New York.
This recipe box has the Kentucky Chain quilt pattern with a background of Imbuya burl and on top, Birdseye Maple and figured Cherry. This piece of rustic Imbuya is superb, burl at its best. It’s “chunky” and a little checked here and there just what you’d expect of a piece of burl. It’s a deep olive green is unique among woods.
The box is 7 1/8" long, 4 3/4" wide and 5 1/2" high with black felt on the bottom, and it is sized for 4x6" recipe cards or photos. The inside is birch.
This box has a small mark in the surface of one of the sides, and a tiny dent in the top Cherry. The burl also shows a rough edge above each hinge. There are some glue discolorations inside, which won't be noticable when the box is filled.
