Quiltboxes wood art pieces feature traditional quilt block designs executed in beautiful hardwood marquetry. I create these heirloom quality boxes in my studio in the capital region of Upstate New York.
This Checkerboard Heart is made from figured Walnut and Mahogany veneer on a background of Eucalyptus. The figure in the woods is gorgeous, but the Mahogany has darkened over time, and there isn't as much contrast between the woods within the heart as we intended.
The box is 6" square and 3 1/2" high. It has cherry inside, black felt on the outside bottom, and real black velvet inside. The knob and hinges are solid brass.
