Kentucky Star on Curly Mahogany
Quiltboxes wood art pieces feature traditional quilt block designs executed in beautiful hardwood marquetry. I create these heirloom quality boxes in my studio in the capital region of Upstate New York.
This 6" keepsake box is covered with curly Mahogany. The vintage quilt block pattern is called "Kentucky", and it is made from Birdseye Maple and figured Walnut. The pattern came out a bit too wide, so the outside point of one Maple diamond got sanded off. The figure and the contrast in the woods are stellar, and it's still a gorgeous box.
The box is 6" square and 3 1/2" high. The wood inside is cherry, and the lid liners are made from cherry harvested from our own property. The inside bottom is lined with black velvet, and there is black felt on the outside bottom. The knob and hinges are solid brass.
